How do you define beauty? How does society define beauty? How do teens define beauty? Project Beauty was started to emphasize natural beauty in young women, to redefine the definition of beauty amongst teens and change how it is portrayed on social media.
This year I asked Team 19, my model team, to participate in a photo session with natural hair and no makeup. I am so proud of them for embracing their natural beauty, for making a statement, and for taking this journey. Many of the girls have provided a quote or story to go along with their pictures as well. Enjoy!
“She is clothed with strength and dignity, and she laughs without fear of the future.” ~ Proverbs 31:25
Growing up biracial I never fit the typical image of “beautiful.” I was actually pretty close to being the opposite and it took a toll on my self-confidence. For the longest time in school, I would try to follow all the trends in hopes of fitting in, but that just wasn’t who I was. I was unique in every way possible and finally, I let that shine through. I used to think “unique” and “beautiful” couldn’t mean the same thing, but truly they go hand in hand. Being unique is beautiful and we are all our own unique.” ~ Kaitlyn
“A pretty face will always grow old. A nice body will always change. But a beautiful soul will always remain a beautiful soul.”
“Your beauty should not come from outward adornments, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes. Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight.” ~ 1st Peter 3:4
“I loved having the opportunity to participate in Project Beauty. It’s important to remember that things like makeup, jewelry, and hairstyle don’t define your beauty. The Lord has made us beautiful, even if we may not always see it. Here is to embracing our natural beauty.” ~ Lauren
“You are altogether beautiful, my darling, beautiful in every way.” ~ Song of Songs 4:7
Keep the encouragement going and comment below for these brave young women.
